A familiar presence on the AUSTIN CITY LIMITS stage, the beloved performer Rosanne Cash returns for her seventh appearance in a new episode debuting on
PBS stations nationwide this Saturday, November 13. Also featured this week in her ACL debut is the singing and songwriting powerhouse Brandi Carlile.
Cash returns to the show with her band to perform songs from her 2009 release
The List, in which she reinterprets essential country songs passed on to her by her legendary father Johnny Cash. The album recently won the Americana Music Association's top honor, selected as its 2010 Album of the Year.
"Rosanne has been one of our favorites since her first appearance on the show in 1983," said Series Executive Producer Terry Lickona. "She combines elegance and class with an innate talent; it's obviously in her genes. We were thrilled to have her back as part of our last season in the original ACL studio, singing the songs hand-picked by her dad."
About the Washington native who rounds out the show's second half-hour, Lickona enthuses, "Brandi Carlile is like a lightning bolt among the crop of fresh female singers. She brings passion, fun and a big heart to the stage, and her songs speak to a new generation of young women...and guys, too! Think 'rising star.'"
Carlile and her band perform like ACL veterans in this appearance, tearing it up with songs from Carlile's acclaimed albums
The Story and
Give Up The Ghost, plus her interpretation of the Johnny Cash classic "Folsom Prison Blues."
Season 36 celebrates an exciting time in the history of AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, as the show tapes its last season in its original studio, which was designated last year as an historic rock and roll landmark by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. In early 2011, the show will move to its new home in the heart of downtown Austin at the Moody Theater, a full-time music venue and state of the art production facility.
