They don't come with a better musical lineage than Rosanne Cash. The eldest daughter of Johnny and first wife Vivian, Cash was taken under the musical wing of her father's second wife, June Carter and taught everything about the Carter Family's catalogue. When she was 18, her father handed her a list of 100 essential country songs and her latest album, which draws from these songs and is called, appropriately, The List, formed the bulk of her set.

She explained she was recovering from a cold and would "refund a pound for every note missed", but neither she, nor her "band", husband John Leventhal, were out of pocket. She may have been croaky during the introductions, but that voice was in top form. There were too many highlights to list, but her father's Tennessee Flat top Box, Dylan's Girl From the North Country and a searing Burn Down This Town, stood out. Leventhal was a revelation on guitar and piano, providing a master class in tasteful accompaniment. She encored with Roddy Hart on My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and finished with the Carter Family's Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow.

Opener Nathaniel Rateliff captivated the crowd with a stunning voice, backed by piano, cello and double bass. His album is out in March and should be worth a listen.
