From Trinity Wall Street:
TRINITY WALL STREET PRESENTS
ROSANNE CASH
A free 4th of July concert on Governors Island
New York, April 27, 2010 — Trinity Wall Street will present a free concert with Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Rosanne Cash on Governors Island on Sunday, July 4, 2010. The daughter of country music singer Johnny Cash and a local New Yorker, Rosanne Cash’s music draws on many genres including country, folk, pop, rock and blues. Trinity, which has historic ties to Governors Island where it has maintained a chapel since the mid-1800s, is committed to presenting music and arts in lower Manhattan and has hosted free concerts on the island every summer since 2007. Previous Trinity concerts on Governors Island have featured Judy Collins, Janis Ian, Richie Havens, and Odetta, among others. The concert is presented in partnership with the Governors Island Alliance and the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation.
“We are pleased to once again extend Trinity’s year-round music programming to Governors Island this summer with a free concert featuring Rosanne Cash,” said the Rev. Dr. James H. Cooper, rector of Trinity Wall Street. “Governors Island is an oasis in lower Manhattan providing an ideal setting not only for an outdoor musical experience, but also for community building and personal refreshment.”
“We are thrilled that Trinity Wall Street is once again presenting a concert on Governors Island,” said Leslie Koch, president of the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation. “Trinity has been a generous partner since 2007, hosting free concerts that bring thousands of people to the Island for great music and relaxation. Rosanne Cash is a talented artist and is a great fit with all of the activities planned for this summer.”
Over the past thirty years Ms. Cash has recorded 12 albums, and has eleven number one singles. In that time she has navigated her own path between country and rock, roots and pop, writing and singing songs that are finely wrought vignettes, both highly personal and universally appealing. Her most recent release is The List, a collection of American country and folk classics compiled from a list of songs given to her by her iconic father when she was just a teen. The album has turned out to be among the most popular of Ms. Cash’s career. It was one of the best-reviewed albums of the year and the song “Sea of Heartbreak,” a duet with Bruce Springsteen, received a 2009 Grammy nomination. The full album is eligible for Grammy nominations in 2010. On August 10, 2010, Viking will publish her long-awaited memoir, Composed, a candid look at Ms. Cash’s upbringing, her development as an artist and her current life.
The concert will begin at 2:00 pm. Free ferries to Governors Island will leave from Manhattan and Brooklyn for Governors Island. For travel directions and an up to date ferry schedule, visit www.govisland.com.
