The Incongruous CityMrs L sees and hears it on the streets of ManhattanTuesday, October 7 I know it’s summer when the old guy in the building next door parks his plastic lawn chair on the sidewalk in front of his apartment building sometime after lunch, and sits there for the entire afternoon watching the traffic and the passersby as if he is watching the waves and boats from the seashore. And I know it’s Fall when he stops bringing his plastic chaise outdoors and he becomes just another sidewalk surfer, head down and jacket zipped all the way up as he trudges down the street. It’s Fall. previous | next | back to main page |

Is it finally cool enough in NYC for it to be considered fall? Here in CA, we are still getting days of 85+ temperatures, with very few respites (and some days even hotter).
I’d love some fall. Could you send it this way?

I live in LA (unfortunately I have to in the film industry) and I miss the East Coast so much (I’m a Georgia boy). Thanks for the updates. By the way, I’ve had a crush on you since I was 16 (I’m 40).

Well, yall, you can tell it’s fall here in good ol’ Tennessee because there’s a nip in the night air, leaves are turning, cider is brewing and fall festivals & country fairs abound. To quote Charlie Daniels, “Ain’t it good to be alive and be in Tennessee!” Amen!
