The Incongruous CityMrs L sees and hears it on the streets of ManhattanWednesday, November 5 I live in Chelsea, about twenty blocks straight south of Times Square, and I could hear the roars from my bedroom window at about 11 pm election night, when Obama was declared President-elect. The celebration here in Chelsea, and all around the city, went on until the wee hours. There was literally Dancing In The Streets. There was a group in the East Village who gathered spontaneously to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner". American flags went up all over. Personally, we posted a little handmade sign in the window, next to the pumpkin decorations, that said "Yes, We Did!" previous | next | back to main page |

I was traveling in DC and there was similar reaction there too. Honking, Dancing, Shouting from the apartments, Fireworks.
All of this in the pouring rain. All worth it.

It’s sweet to feel hope again, isn’t it?

Mrs. L,
Sorry about the above comment…someone always has to spoil the party.
To: Tim
Go ahead and puke…may be purging will help your attitude. If you wanna hear singing I suggest you contact Rush Limbaugh or any other so called “conservative” and check out their hit parade.

I am so relieved to have a Democrat back in the white house. I feel alot safer knowing that Health care, Reproductive Rights, Social Programs, Child Health initiatives and social security are all focal points.
aint it grand not to have to worry about what will crash and burn next?

Love your music hon, and you’re husband is a tremendous talent, but don’t insult your audience by assuming they are all bleeding heart liberals.. and accusing me of being a fan of Rush? God help you and your family when the next bomb goes off in NYC. They’re not going to stop hating us because a democrat got in. Tim

A great moment indeed, Rosanne.
Tim: It wasn’t Rosanne who responded to you, but another poster. (Just for the record.)
I want to add that this is Rosanne’s space and she’s sharing it for free. Everyone has a right to disagree with her, and no one has to read her comments, but no one has a right to tell her, or anyone else to shut up.

My family all went down to Grant Park the night of the election. What a beautiful night! I have a picture of my 17 year old son posing with 3 Chicago Cops -all smiling. I was reminded that in 1968 at the Democratic convention in the same park, kids threw rocks at cops & cops returned the favor by launching tear gas. We have come so far!

if you’re going to call me ‘hon’ out of the left side of your mouth, don’t tell me to ‘shut up’ out of the right side. And by the way, this is my website.. I didn’t come into your living room!

I agree that it IS nice to have hope again. Although Mr. Obama may not be perfect, you got to love the passion and intelligence. We’ll get there!
By the way… can’t wait to see you in Kent in July!
