ROSANNE CASH ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF GRAMMY-NOMINATED "RULES OF TRAVEL"

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash is hitting the road again in support of her current Capitol release, Rules of Travel, with a string of dates that takes her into January 2005.

Set list, Zurich, March 2004

It's been an astonishing year for Rosanne since the release of Rules of Travel last spring - a year of resounding triumph and profound personal loss. The album, her first since 1996's 10 Song Demo, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album and Cash placed #22 on CMT's list of Top 100 Female Country Artists of All Time. Rules of Travel put her at the forefront in international circles as well, leading to performances at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, England's Cambridge Folk Festival, the country music festival in Zurich and at the New Year's Eve Hogmanay Celebration in Scotland.

The press heralded her return: "Rosanne Cash is back in glorious voice on Rules of Travel," declared Vanity Fair. "Aided by able guests (Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle) and catchy hooks, Cash delivers a CD of beautiful and melancholy folk-pop," said Entertainment Weekly, giving Rules of Travel an A-. From major dailies such as the Minneapolis Star, Milwaukee Journal and Houston Chronicle to niche music magazines such as Dirty Linen and Stereophile, everyone seemed to concur: this was one of the best albums of her stellar career.

But against the backdrop of acclaim and accomplishments, Cash was coping with a string of personal losses (her stepmother, June Carter Cash, passed away in May of 2003 and Rosanne lost several other close family members also) and the painful knowledge that her father, country legend Johnny Cash, was in failing health. In fact, the inevitable loss was something they examined together in a duet on Rules of Travel. Johnny had traded vocals with Rosanne on "September When It Comes," a sparse, beautiful rumination on mortality that she had written with John Leventhal (her husband and producer).

When Johnny passed away in September of 2003, the song became even more poignant and, when paired with a montage of rare family photos at the Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute concert held in Nashville last November (and broadcast on CMT later that month), it resonated deeply with fans and family alike. At the request of Rosanne's family, the homage was released by Capitol as a music video and aired on CMT and other video outlets.

Rosanne's rich musical heritage is apparent in her work, as the Boston Globe noted in a live review last year:
"Backed by a crackerjack band...Cash showed the influence of being part of one of music's most endearing families without carrying any of the baggage. During a 90-minute set she proved herself an engaging and enduring artist."
Performing live, Rosanne segues effortlessly from sensitive songwriter to rollicking, rootsy rocker, making it clear why Billboard called her "an artist who made it all possible for today's Sheryl Crows and Dixie Chicks...[a] timeless talent."
