Rosanne Cash set bar high for Longworth-Anderson Series

More than 550 people gathered across Elm Street from Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine for a cosmic experience Friday night.

Those folks skipped the full moon, lunar eclipse and green comet in the sky to watch Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal shine brightly as they kicked off the Longworth-Anderson Series, one of the premier events on the renovated Memorial Hall schedule.

Cash acknowledged the honor of the occasion, then launched into “Modern Blue, the first of five songs from her 2014 Grammy Award-winning album “The River & the Thread.” Leventhal’s virtuoso acoustic guitar provided the perfect complement to his wife’s voice, which seems to have become even more soulful over the years.

It wasn’t only the singing, however. Cash was the consummate host, telling the stories behind the tunes that the couple wrote on an extended trip through the South to explore her family’s history…
